Advertising

A lot of people confuse advertising with graphic design and even art. Advertising itself is an artform, but should work effectively for you. Unfortunately the trend in the current design field leads a lot of agencies to only design for their portfolios. Due to this reason a lot of companies shy away from advertisting, but in actuality advertising and marketing budgets should be a priority now more than ever. With so many off-target ads, on-target ads perform much more effectively.

We have a proven track record of designing effective ads for 20 years. Together we can transform your existing problematic ads into successful campaigns. With experience designing tens of thousands of ads for print, internet, and e-mail, we work to create effective advertisements for any product or service in any phase of the marketing curve. We can also help you to determine whether a campaign is effective or not (and track the results). We work directly with clients and through ad agencies as well, designing for the most challenging accounts and markets. We have extensive experience designing ads for the following media formats:

We’ve designed ads and advertising campaigns
for the following:

Corporate Identity

A company’s logo is more than a simple graphic. The appearance of a logo has an effect customers and potential clients perception. Simple aspects such as color scheme or typeface can profoundly influence corporate success. Typefaces(fonts) themselves appeal to different demographic markets and evoke subconscious associations about a product or service’s quality or desirability. These associations are developed by experience with brands and products that feature the same families of typeface. “Instinctual” selections by consumers can make or break a product or company’s success. Together we will create an up-to-date corporate look with effective readability, legibility, and an on-target color scheme for your intended audiences. Our corporate identity design services include:

We’ve designed corporate identity packages for the following industries:

Branding Research and Consulting

Branding is often confused with corporate identity or logo design, however a brand is the collection of feelings and thoughts associated with a company or organization. These perceptions can be triggered by a variety of factors. The right company or product name can align your product or services with an intended target market, but the wrong one can mistakenly lead customers to believe your product to be offered by your competition. The look of a logo can affect the overall perception of quality or trustworthiness. A single product’s quality or durability can affect the overall perception of quality from the company. Color has been found to have a psychological impact on purchasing decisions and moods. Certain typefaces and type treatments drive readers away from publications, magazines, and advertisements, as well as create subconscious associations with prominent products which feature a similar typeface in their marketing. Other branding influences include competition, advertisements, media coverage, and word of mouth.

Through analysis and a targeted strategy, we can influence your corporate image, strengthen your logo design, improve your brand’s name recognition, improve your target market’s reactions, and generate brand loyalty. Many factors today affect brand image, from smear campaigns by competition, to product placement in mass media, to product reviews on websites. Together, we can determine where your company stands in the market, how your company is perceived, and rebuild your company’s brand ensuring a positive corporate image and growth.

Promotional Materials

Informative and relevant promotional materials are vital tools in helping customers choose your company, products, or services. Mail-distributed communications are an effective way to attract new and repeat business. Prominently displayed rack-distributed materials, such as newsletters, fliers, and business reply cards aimed at your target market can improve customer feedback and interest. Point of purchase displays can help customers with the information they need when making their last minute decisions. While follow-up calls and follow-through pursuits can seal a deal, properly designed printed communications and promotional items can keep your company in a potential customer’s thoughts. Promotional materials I design include:

Vector Illustration

A vector illustration can be scaled to any size, and can be used in almost any medium. These icons, graphics, and informative illustrations are found in media communications everywhere and are useful tools to help strengthen a written message. I can work with you to illustrate any concept. Large or small, detailed or simple, these illustrations can be used in:

Photorealistic Illustration

People respond to photos and images. Sometimes these images seem impossible to obtain because a building hasn’t been built yet, a product hasn’t been produced, or a concept is still being developed. In other instances, a more narrow focus is needed than modern photography can provide, or a photograph may be too explicit for its intended audience, such as in the medical field. Sometimes communicating a message effectively through a photograph may require an unacceptable health risk to a photographer or model, or an extreme financial risk involving property or insurance liabilities. Whether the piece you need to have illustrated exists in the real world, is conceptual in its early stages, or is completely imaginary, I will work with you to illustrate or render your concept, process, idea, or product. I have years of experience making professional, photo-realistic illustrations that have been used in:

3D Illustration

With the latest trends in marketing and advertising, 3-Dimensional images can be found in everything from television ads, logos, and instruction manuals to website interfaces and more. I can create the imagery you need to illustrate your custom-made product, describe your service in visual detail, create a visual concept for your prospective work, mock-up your production files in a visual format, or I can create high resolution 3D artwork for a marketing promotion. If a product or service you wish to illustrate is difficult to express through photography alone, then 3D illustration might be the right choice. Contact me to discuss and we’ll see if 3D illustration is the right move for your advertising or marketing promotions. 3D illustrations I’ve created have been used in:

Conceptual Illustration

Illustrations which convey a concept or service can be the ultimate tool in landing a contract, winning a prospective client, or showing a customer exactly what you want them to see. I can help you develop an illustration that will speak your concept to your audience or provide the imagery you need to complete a contract. This may be a conceptual idea for a product or a complicated process which is hard to explain visually. Concepts I have illustrated have included:

Photo Manipulation

My clients have asked me for everything from incorporating three-dimensional objects into two dimensional scenes, turning daylight location photos into night-time, high-end marketing shots, and creating winter wonderlands from summer landscapes. Whether removing something from an image, cleaning up a graphic after something was removed, or compositing multiple images together, my experience in replicating textures, matching patterns, and producing art from non-existent image data will shine in your completed works. I can also repaint an image to make an old object look new, add color to a black and white photograph, or make new objects appear weathered. My photo manipulation services include:

Traditional Illustration

Whether “old-school,” “old world,” or comic-book style, a message can be better conveyed with artwork from a different period or in a different style. Some ideas or concepts lend themselves to a softer, more delicate image. For instance, in a holiday card, watercolors might convey the message in the proper tone. For a far-eastern look, sumi-e may be appropriate for an authentic feel. I offer illustration services in a variety of styles in traditional media:

Support Graphics

Support graphics come in a variety of formats and can make a positive impact on a business. Support graphics include maps of all types, charts and graphs, floorplans, visual layouts, seating charts, diagrams, flowcharts and more.

Maps

Although technology has come a long way, GPS and online maps have their limitations, may be inaccurate, and list your competition when someone searches for your company. A company might want to depict more detail than presently available through an external service. Whether it is a detailed area map with accurate directions or a layout for visitors to a theme park, these graphic communications make a positive impact on the visitor’s experience.

Charts and graphs

Interesting statistical charts and graphs bring life to meetings and provide clarity on topics or discussions. Through animation, these graphics can maintain the focus of the viewer. Flow charts can visually describe a process. Stock reports and news stories are more easily conveyed through graphical means.

Floorplans and visual layouts

Customers can easily locate a department or an item in a store with the use of a floorplan or visual layout. Site maps for large indoor shopping malls and airports help people find the services and facilities they seek. This might be in handout form, or as a large sign located in a centralized area of the campus or building.

Support graphics can improve:

Front-End Interface Design

Websites which have been neglected give the wrong impression to potential customers. People today research a company online to make informed decisions, while others search websites for deals or coupons. Websites are not difficult to create with today’s technology, however effective search engine optimized websites that communicate effectively and drive readership and word of mouth results, still require a professional touch for the user interface, user experience, and overall functionality. Great functionality under the hood still needs to be easily accessible and understood at a glance. If your web developers do not design aesthetically, I can work with you to create an interface shell they can implement throughout your website. I design website interfaces, ready for development code insertion, or complete for immediate publishing to the internet. I will work with your team of developers to help you increase the “stickiness” of your website visitors, or to help you to get visitors to the information they seek as quickly and efficiently as possible.

If your website needs are more basic, we can create a web presence that still says a lot about your company visually and contextually without the need for a large technical overhead or infrastructure. Together we can effectively communicate your message to your customers, patrons, or sponsors.

Back-End Interface Design

Automation principles are not only for assembly lines. Did you know that the same processes can be applied to the workflow in website interfaces? Employees waste time in poorly designed content management systems, going through the same routines over and over. Some of these routines may be easily automated, such as selecting today’s date or simply offering a drop-down selection in lieu of entering repetitive data. Sometimes poor website design for internal use can lead to excessive amounts of help desk contact or unfinished projects due to incomplete or inadequate user interfaces. I can offer consultation and in some cases develop remedies to these issues. Together we can determine if your users are losing time through extra clicks, repetitive processes, or non-intuitive user interfaces.

Flash Animations

Adobe’s Flash is the prevalent format for animation and advertising on the internet, and is also used in some commercials and cartoon shorts on television. Whether animating processes, procedures, providing interactive informative slideshows, or creating interfaces for interesting web experiences, Flash animation may be the answer to your marketing needs. Whether it’s a new illustration to be animated, a photograph, or a three dimensional scene, I can provide animation solutions for everything from websites to motion graphics for the big screen, to interactive tradeshow displays. Some of the animation projects I’ve worked on include:

e-Marketing / Mail Blast Design

Spam is simply unsolicited email. With antispam software marking solicited e-mail messages as spam, and new regulations in place, from antispam laws to ISP rules on sending and receiving emails, email marketing can be intimidating and costly without the proper professionals facilitating your electronic communication process. If you are contemplating an email marketing campaign, or if you need assistance with deliverability in an existing email campaign, I can help. It is much better to have a customer or patron look forward to your emails rather than treating them as spam. Sender reputation in regard to mail servers and blocklists is a big factor in determining whether an email is sent to a junk folder or bounced altogether.

I’ve helped a variety of companies infiltrate inboxes around the world, allowing their subscribers to receive sought-after content. I can help you to determine a course of action to retain readership of your emails, determine your sender reputation, assess whether you’re using the best sending service for your purposes, and maintain your current subscriber database. I can also help you to find ways to build a subscriber database or increase interest in a newsletter. If you are in need of an email marketing campaign or consultation about e-marketing, I am available to get your company’s electronic communications on the right path.
e-Marketing / Mail Blast campaigns may include:

Microsites / Minisites

A microsite or minisite is a simple page or section of a website, designed specifically about a product or service with the intention of developing more interest, providing more information, or collecting marketing metrics and data. A microsite / minisite might follow-up from a print adverting campaign, a cell phone text message, or a television ad. It may also help persuade people to think of a product or service in a more positive light, or create more positive information about a product, service, or company on the internet. I can work with you to design a targeted microsite solution for your organization.
Microsites / Minisites I’ve built have included:

Content Management Systems

Not every website is complicated enough to require a full-time web designer to make changes to the website using web code. My services can add custom content management functionality to an existing site, or I can design a completely new website for your company which works with a custom content management system designed around your intended content. This will allow non-technical staff to make changes and upgrades to a website’s content without having to know HTML. Features include:

Statistical Analysis Systems

Misconceptions about web page and website effectiveness are common. You can tell who is looking at your pages, at what times, and from where if you have the right statistical analysis engine in place. We can help you to determine if your new online campaign or print ad is creating follow-through. In conjunction with your advertising statistics, we can tell exactly which ads work on which pages. I can design and develop a solution from a simple hit counter to a sophisticated analysis engine that tracks individual user habits. Contact me today to find out how I can help.

Photography

A great photograph can communicate a specific message about a product, service, event, location, or company. Stock imagery lacks the message and quality of a carefully planned photo. Custom photography can refine a message to a specific audience or ensure the intended audience processes the visual message. I can personify almost any object through the use of photography. The types of photographic services I offer include:
